An advanced international standard security system has been installed at Sialkot International Airport to avert any untoward incident and provide better aviation facilities to passengers.

Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) Chairman Malik Muhammad Ashraf stated while talking to the newsmen here on Sunday.

The SIAL chief informed that construction of the passenger terminal, Review Bridge, duty free shop and VIP lounge at SIAL is underway at a brisk pace, adding that this project would be completed before the end of the current year.

He said that second phase of Sialkot International Airport would be completed very soon which would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The SIAL chairman claimed that currently 51 international passenger flights are taking off of the airport in a week, saying that the number of these flights would be increased further due to the growing number of passengers.

He informed that regular cargo flights to Europe and America have also been launched to facilitate Sialkot exporters and boost national exports.

He said that the SIAL management has formally invited several international airlines to come to Pakistan and start passenger and cargo flights from SIAL. He stated that Sialkot airport could be a very successful foreign destination for any airline, saying the Sialkot exporters have written a unique golden history of self-help by completing this mega project.

Mr Ashraf revealed that the mega SIAL project has proved to be a milestone towards stability of national economy.

He narrated that the SIAL has opened new vistas of economic development in the country and brought boom in the industrial sector. He said that it would also help in doubling the annual export from Sialkot from existing $2 billion, thus catering to the need of the Pakistan’s first ever Golden Export Triangle comprising Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala districts.

He said that the Sialkot international airport has also ensured easy access of Sialkot exporters to international business routs, foreign destinations and international trade markets besides leaving a positive impact on regional economic growth and human development.

He pointed out that early completion of Shehbazpur Bridge over River Chenab would also reduce the distance between Gujrat to Sialkot international airport and help connect the airport to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He revealed that the SIAL management is also planning the establishment of an international standard four star hotel near the airport in the first phase to facilitate foreigners. This hotel would have 60 rooms, which would be later upgraded to five stars hotel. He said that the airport management would also establish an international standard Exhibition Hall/ Display Centre at the SIAL to facilitate the Sialkot exporters.
