The United States of America wants to facilitate us again and this time with a $1.5bn economic aid package. One thing is definite, this $1.5bn would not be spent on our socio-economic crises. Why? Because of two reasons: we have very corrupt leaders and Americans give money with strings attached, strings which usually pull our leaders towards selling themselves and the belief our country is based upon. I agree that in Pakistan we have poverty, illiteracy and terrorism and need money to fight it. But if the Americans can have their freedoms, why can't we? -ABDUL BASIT, via e-mail, May 8.
