ISLAMABAD - Ministry of Food and Agriculture, in its budget recommendations for the forthcoming budget, has recommended the federal government to completely waive off the Regulatory Duty on the import of 205 agriculture items or reduce it to up to 10 per cent. According to sources, Ministry of Agriculture and Food said that last year the government could hardly get any benefit after levying Customs and Regulatory duties on the import of agricultural items as all items were included in Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA). He said that smuggling of those items included in ATTA increased manifold across the country. The sources further said that Ministry strongly recommended that in a bid to control high rate of inflation in the country, it is necessary to abolish Regulatory Duty on the import of agriculture substances or at least it should be reduced from current 25 per cent to 10 per cent.
