ISLAMABAD After giving special training to local policemen at Sihala College, now American trainers are providing training to Islamabad Police at Police Lines Headquarters, it has been reliably learnt. In this regard, various makeshift camps have been established at the Police Lines. The high-ups of Islamabad Police ruled out the possibility of any suspicious activity on part of Americans at Police Lines and termed the stay of the US trainers valid, saying these trainers were providing various capacity building programmes. Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Syed Kaleem Imam, commenting on the issue said that only 6 US trainers were present at the Police Lines Headquarters and they were training Islamabad police for capacity building. He categorically denied any suspicious activity of US trainers at Police Line Headquarters. He said, American are cooperating with us for the capacity building of our police officials. Security analysts were of the view that such training camps should be limited inside diplomatic enclave. However, IGP said for training purpose trainers needed open environment and wide grounds to train any force so that these American were allowed at the Police Lines. American trainers are giving training to Islamabad Police like China and France had extended their help in various capacity building programmes for Islamabad police. Senior Superintended of Police Lines Headquarters Zubair Hashmi said that US trainers were providing the Islamabad Police different programmes like investigations and leadership skills etc. SSP too, like IGP ruled out possibility of any suspicious intention of US trainers. To a query, Hashmi said that US trainers belonged to the US State Department of Justice and all were retired police officers. It may be recalled here that a camp of US trainers was established at Police College Sihala, which was later closed after US trainers suspicious activities.
