Terrorists enjoy govt shelter: JI

LAHORE Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan has said that peace would elude Karachi as long the terrorists enjoyed the provincial governments shelter and the federal government was blackmailed by the patrons of the murderers. While condemning the target killing of innocent people in Karachi, he said in a press statement on Thursday the port city had been handed over to terrorists as the federal and the provincial governments were silent due to the pressure of a particular party. Munawar said innocent people were being killed in the confrontation between two parties. The workers of the two ruling parties were firing on each others offices and terrorists were roaming openly in Karachi, targeting innocent citizens. The police which was responsible for law and order was absent from the affected areas which implied it was under pressure from one of the parties in power. He said some outside powers also wanted to destroy peace in the mega city and caused bloodshed through their particular groups in order to cause unrest in the economic hub of Pakistan. to ruin its economy. He was of the view that unless the killings on 12th of May and 12th of Rabiul Awal were probed and the culprits were brought to book, Karachi would remain at the mercy of the terrorists. It was the height of irony, he said, that the culprits were trying to deceive the masses under the garb of complainants. The JI chief stressed upon the federal government to rise above party interests, and take a bold decision for punishing the culprits in the larger interest of the country and for the security of the lives and property of the citizens.
