LAHORE – A day after the scuffle between Punjab police and PM’s security staff, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Addl. IG Punjab Aslam Tareen has ruled out the possibility of conducting any formal inquiry against former SP Saddar Division Athar Waheed.

Talking to this scribe on Sunday, the CCPO said: “No departmental inquiry is under way against Athar Waheed”. He said the SP concerned had been directed to report to the Punjab Police Headquarters (PHQ) till further orders. He also said that Punjab government had no intention to relieve the said officer to report back to the federal government for his possible new posting in Balochistan.

The SP Sadr had on Saturday ordered his five SHOs especially the SHO Mustafabad Inspector Mustaneer Khan to round the PM’s security man Mr. Talat shortly after he had asked the SHOs and SP to remain away from the special security cover of the Prime Minister during a function on EXPO Center. The SP had exchanged hot words with Talat and had put him in police jeep and asked him to apologize for his ‘wrongdoing’.

Later, the Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa ordered the Home Secretary and Punjab Police Inspector General to probe into the matter and report him within 24 hours. The IG Punjab, however, had ordered the SP to relieve the charge of SP Saddar Division and report to the Headquarters. The DPR to Punjab Police Ms Nabeela Ghazanfar had told this reporter on Saturday that the SP had been transferred and CCPO Lahore was conducting the inquiry against him.

But on Sunday evening, the CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen said no inquiry was underway against him and he would stay in Lahore till further orders.
