PESHAWAR - Former member of National Assembly Abdul Akbar Chitrali strongly opposed the proposed imposition of 12 per cent sales tax on various goods of Fata and Pata and mentioned that these areas had been exempted from taxes due to their geographical positions.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Abdul Akbar Chitrali said that instead of provision of more facilities to these poor people government is hatching conspiracies to bring these areas in tax net but it should be noted that constitution of Pakistan has exempted them from these taxes. He also came down hard on the suggestion of provincial minister regarding imposing taxes on non-custom paid vehicles in Malakand and Fata.  He also stressed the provincial government to start preparation for local bodies’ election and instead of touching the sensitive problems of Fata and Pata they should give relief to the masses. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami would oppose all the decisions regarding the tax net in backward areas of KPK.
