3 children killed in Karachi fireworks factory blast

KARACHI - Three children among four people were killed while three others wounded in a blast in the warehouse of fireworks at Memon Goth, Karachi on Tuesday night.
A powerful blast occurred at a poultry farm where huge quantity of fireworks was dumped, leaving at least 10 people including six children Albela Junejo, Shahabuddin, Farooq Junejo, Ghulam Ali Magsi, Altaf Chandio, his brother Zahid Chandio and caretaker of the farm Qasim sustained serious wounds. The farm was completely damaged in the incident.
Following the blast, panic engulfed the residents of the locality. 
Rescuers rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced the deaths of three children while admitted other injured for treatment.  
Dr Semi Jamali, in-charge of JPMC emergency department, said three dead bodies of children including Albela, 16, Wali Muhammad, 15, and Shahabuddin, 10, were brought to JPMC while three injured including Najamuddin, Altaf and Azam were admitted for treatment. The victims got serious burn wounds, she added.
SHO Rao Khalid said unidentified men established the factory of fireworks at the said place two or three back. During preparation of some material, it exploded and fire engulfed the factory. Police were trying to trace the owner of the factory.     
According to eyewitnesses, police and Rangers were arrived 45 minutes late on the blast site.
It is worth mentioning here that a similar blast was also occurred in the fireworks material godown a couple of years ago at Garibabad locality which claimed four lives and left 32 injured.
