Court orders FIR against TV owner, anchor person, others

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ch Muhammad Husssain order the Saddr Police SHO to register a case against anchor person Shaista Lahdi, Mir Shakeelur Rehman, owner of Geo channel, Veena Malik and her husband Asad Khattak and two others on the charge of committing blasphemy in programme aired on the channel.
The court declared verdict on a petition filed by senior Advocate of DBA Mohsin Hussain Jafri. In the petition, he complained about the blasphemous programme aired by the anchor person recently which had injured religious sentiments of entire Muslim Ummah and requested the court to order registration of a case against the respondents. The court directed the Hafizabad Saddr Police to register a case against the accused in 24 hours and produce copy of the FIR in the court.
Meanwhile, traders of Madni Bazaar Jalalpur Road observed a shutter down strike and took out a rally against the sacrilegious programme aired by the Geo channel.
Led by Haji Muhammad Rafique and Ch Asad Javed, the protesters chanted slogans against the anchor person and other deliberately injured religious sentiments of Muslims which could not be tolerated in the country. They demanded a ban on the Geo channel and strict action against the owner, anchor persons and others for the blasphemous act.
In Mandi Bahauddin, Markazi Anjman-e-Tajran took a protest rally in front of Press Club to condemn Geo TV and its owner for airing controversial contents in its morning show “Utho Jago Pakistan.” Anjman-e-Tajran President led the rally during which the participants blocked the road by burning tyres for hours.–Staff reporter.
The protesters including leaders of the traders and religious organisations were carrying placards with slogans “ Tajran condemn Geo for airing sacrilegious contents” , “Ban Geo” and book the blasphemers under the law.
Speakers addressing the rally condemned the Geo channel for showing blasphemous contents and demanded strict action against anchors and other team that prepared and telecasted the programme.
Meanwhile dozens of writ petitions against Geo owner, anchors and team members for showing the program have been filed with Justice of Peace. Different dates for hearing of the petitions have been fixed. Petitioners include lawyers and traders.
