‘No polio case in Punjab in current year’

LAHORE - Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh Salman Rafiq on Tuesday said that no polio case has been reported from Punjab during the current year while Health Department is making efforts to keep the province polio free.
Talking to the media after administering anti-polio drops to children in Rajgarh area, he said that a special campaign has been launched in 72 sensitive union councils of Lahore. EDO Health Lahore Dr Zulfiqar Ali and other officers were also present.
Kh Salman Rafiq said that environmental sample which was tested positive was taken from Lahore in April. He said that six 672000 children would be vaccinated against polio during the tree day campaign. He said that 4000 health workers were participating in the campaign and mobile teams were administering anti-polio drops door to door. He said that people were extending all out cooperation for the success of polio campaign. He said that other provinces would also have to pay attention to this issue for the eradication of polio from the country.
YDA urges Khan to intervene
Expressing solidarity with doctors on hunger strike in Khyber PK, Young Doctors Association Punjab has urged the government to accept legitimate demands instead of taking any action against protesters.
Addressing a press conference at Allama Iqbal Medical College on Tuesday, YDA Punjab President Dr Javed Aheer urged PTI Chairman Imran Khan to intervene and resolve the issue of implementation of revised service structure already agreed by the government. Dr Ajmal Rao, Dr Shabbir Chaudhry, Dr Ehsan Lali and other office bearers were also present.
Dr Javed Aheer warned the government of peaceful protest if action was taken against doctors on hunger strike. He said that it was a pity that the KPK government was not fulfilling promises made with the medical community.
