Musharraf, Shujaat, Pagara meet to consider unification

KARACHI - Efforts are underway to form Muttahida Muslim League in the country and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) chairman Pir Pagara will contact all the factions of Muslim Leagues in this regard.
A meeting in this connection was held at the residence of former president Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday. It decided to summon a meeting of all Muslim Leagues’ factions soon. The agenda of unification of factions also came under consideration.
The leaders discussed the current political situation of the country and pledged to show unity in resolving the issues. Musharraf suggested gathering all the factions on one platform to strengthen the democracy and resolve all the public issues in a good manner. It was also decided that efforts should be carried out in this regard and all the leaders should contact other factions of Muslim Leagues individually. Moreover, the local bodies’ elections were also discussed and all the leaders agreed to contest the upcoming LB polls after making coalition with the like-minded parties.
Talking to media men after the meeting Chaudhry Shujaat said, “We are neither forming Muttahida Muslim League to destabilise the ruling government nor wish to shape our government.” He said unification of Muttahida Muslim League was completely aimed at strengthening the federation. It is the need of the hour that all the political forces should gather on a platform to save the institutions from complete collapse and solve the masses issues through the unity of Muslim League factions, said Shujaat. “The APML chief is playing a key role in this regard.”
To a question, he said currently the situation was unpredictable and country might witness mid-term election or Martial Law. “It is not my duty to impose the Governor Rule. I have exchanged views on the political situation of the country and formation of Muttahida Muslim League with Pir Pagara and Pervez Musharraf,” informed Shujaat.
Condemning the attack on the Ismaili community, he said the Ismaili community had played a key role in development and progress of the country and targeting a peaceful community would not be tolerated. He further demanded the government to chalk-out a strict policy to stop such terrorists’ activities.
Later, PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat along with Haleem Adil Shiekh also met with Ismaili community leader Habib Pir and condoled over the loss of precious lives in Safoora Chowrangi incident.
Similarly leader of the Muslim League (Chattha Group) Iqbal Dar and former Karachi nazim and PML-Q leader, Tariq Hassan held a meeting with Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday. During the meeting, APML Sindh Secretary General Shahid Qureshi, Information Secretary Tahir Qureshi and Aslam Minai were present on the occasion.
