Apology not a sign of weakness

This is with reference to Syed Nayyar Uddin Ahmed’s letter titled ‘Bangladesh PM demands apology’. Perhaps the author would read through the Hamoodur Rehmaan Commission report, published by some of our own judges. Even if we do not agree with Bangladesh’s figure of three million deaths, or to BBC’s, independent analysts’, international researchers’, and other experts’ figure of between 200,000 and 500,000 deaths, we should at least have the moral courage to face our own experts’ calculation of 26,000 deaths. We need to stand up and face what we have done. Turning way or living in denial would not help. They were trying times, and we were in a state of war, but there is no harm in an apology if it can bind us now and bring the two nations closer. Apology is not a sign of weakness but of greatness.
