ISLAMABAD - In an attempt to discourage grey trafficking in Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and FIA have joined hands recently.

A team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has recently apprehended employees of a private company “Wisecomm” after uncovering their involvement in grey trafficking. The action was taken on the complaint of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA. Responding to complaint, FIA conducted a raid on 4th November, 2013 and found a long distance International (LDI) operator Wisecomm Private Limited involved in grey trafficking. According to officials, recent raid on Wisecomm (Pvt) Ltd, one of the companies engaged in such activity has revealed that timely action of FIA and PTA helped in preventing millions of rupees monthly losses to national exchequer.  Preliminary investigation from accused revealed that the company was terminating millions of illegal minutes on their set ups established at Rawalpindi and Lahore which was resulting in loss of billion of rupees to the national exchequer.

The LDI worker was terminating approximately 360,000 illegal international minutes on daily basis.  After due legal process, an FIR was launched against the Board of Directors; Tariq Sharif Bhatti, Saaqib Mehmood, Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Awan, Rizwan Younas, Kashan Ghazi, Hamid Bilal, Naeem Abbas Anjum and Ali Khalid.

Naeem Abbas Anjum and Ali Khalid were arrested red handed while operating illegal Termination of International Voice Traffic from the aforementioned location and equipment used for illegal termination of voice traffic was also seized and sent to forensic lab for analysis.

Thirteen bank accounts of Wisecomm Systems have been seized. During interrogation, accused disclosed that company was running highly technical and sophisticated network based in Italy, UK and Greece for illegal Voice Termination in Pakistan to evade monitoring systems of PTA, moreover the company was running the illegal network for last many years.

As per technical reports prepared by the technical team of FIA, NR3C, approximate loss of $1 million was being inflicted to the national exchequer per month.

Further startling revelations are expected during ongoing process of investigation and recovery of evidence from digital media seized from locations. During the investigation it was revealed that some senior officials of FIA and PTA were facilitating the companies involved in gery trafficking. Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan has ordered inquiry to sort out officials involved in this heinous crime. He asked authorities to submit report in this regard.
