LAHORE - Police have failed to arrest a man who threw acid on his ex-wife and two daughters over some petty issue in Sherakot area.

According to police, Azeem had divorced his wife few days ago. The mother-of-three was on her way back home after dropping her children at school when Azeem attacked her and ran away.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors stated their condition critical.

Sources in police said that Azeem had, lately, been extending threats to his ex’s family of dire consequences.

After the incident reported on Wednesday, police started showing its muscles and conducted several raids to nick the attacker. However, in an absurd development within 24 hours, police said that Azeem had gotten interim bail from court for his crime. “When his bail would be cancelled, he would be arrested,” they added.

3 held for receiving extortion

Green Town police Thursday claimed to have arrested three accused allegedly involved in receiving extortion from a trader.

A citizen Adnan had filed an application to police few days ago that some unknown persons were demanding extortion from him on telephone. On which, the CCPO constituted a team headed by DSP Atif Hayat to trace the accused.

After collecting data of phone calls of accused, the police team finalised a deal between accused and applicant. As per deal, the accused dropped demanded money at a fixed venue while police started monitoring of the venue. When accused Muhammad Qasim, Tanveer Alam and Ahmad Ali reached the spot to collect money police apprehended them. The police have also recovered illegal weapons and extortion money from their possession and registered case against them.
