Rawalpindi - A vehicle of Pakistan Army jumped over the median and rammed into two cars coming from opposite side in a bid to avoid a possible suicide hit on Mall Road near the Hearts International Hospital here on Thursday. Driver of a car told to be a colonel in Pakistan Army sustained slight injuries.

A heavy contingent of police, traffic wardens and personnel of law enforcement agencies rushed to the accident site and cordoned off the area disrupting traffic on Mall Road badly.

According to details, a convoy of military vehicles were moving towards Saddr on Mall Road when all of sudden a military double cabin vehicle (94 19 75) plying in middle jumped over the median and smashed into traffic approaching Katcheri Chowk from Saddr on Mall Road. As a result two cars Daihathsu Mira (UH 523) and Suzuki Swift (WT 577) damaged badly besides the military vehicle.

Talking to The Nation, Gulzar Ali,  the driver of damaged military double cabin vehicle,  said that a convoy of three military vehicles were going towards GHQ when he spotted a speeding car from back view mirror moving towards his convoy. “I thought it would be an explosive-laden vehicle and wanted to hit me. I immediately took turn right and lost my control on steering and jeep fell on the other side of road while jumping over the median,” he added. He informed that the double cabin was associated with 502 workshop and used to jam cellular service, car driver managed to escape from scene.

Till the filling of this report, the damaged vehicles were not moved from the accident place while the LEAs were busy in investigating the matter.  Mehwish Yazdani, 29, resident of DHA, who was driving Mira car and narrowly escaped from brazen accident,  said, “I was coming in normal speed after green signal light when I seen a vehicle flying in the air.  “oh my God. I hardly controlled my senses and pushed the accelerator to avoid to be buried under the vehicle but it hit my car from behind.” “The military vehicle was in full speed when its driver lost his control over steering and fell on wrong side damaging two more cars,” she added.
