Jewellers protest surge in dacoities

Rawalpindi - A massive protest demonstration was held on Thursday by Jewellers Association of twin cities against increasing dacoity incidents at Sarafa Bazaar.
While holding banners and placards, the protestors chanted slogans against the police and government. They also torched old tyres and blocked road for vehicular movement.
A large numbers of jewellers led by Jewellers Association Rawalpindi Islamabad office-bearer Suhail Sadiq gathered at the Sarafa Bazaar and staged a protest demo against surge in incidents of armed dacoities in Sarafa Bazaar. They chanted slogans against police and demanded of the Chief Minister Punjab and Inspector General of Police Punjab to take action against police officials for their failure in controlling crime rate in Raja Bazaar. “Protest against dacoites, arrest the dacoites and recover booty from them”, “Protest against negligence of police”, “Provide protection to the jewellers” were the slogans mentioned on placards held by some protestors.
Suhail Sadiq, while talking to media men, said that the incidents of armed dacoites were on the rise in Sarafa Bazaar whereas the law enforcement agencies badly failed to arrest the lawbreakers. He said that so far a numbers of jewellers had been looted by robbers but not a single culprit was arrested by police. He said that the traders were living in state of fear and demanding protection from police. He condemned the recent dacoity incident in which unknown dacoits snatched six tolas of gold and shot injured two jewellers upon showing resistance. He appealed to the Regional Police Officer to provide protection to the jewellers and direct police to control surge in dacoity incidents.
