Islamabad - The federal government on Thursday appointed a grade 21 officer Shabbir Ahmad as Additional Secretary Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Ahmed had been serving in Finance Division as Additional Secretary and government was also given him the acting charge of Additional Secretary BISP. Establishment Division has issued notification regarding this appointment.

Shabbir Ahmed has been given the additional charge for three months following removal of former secretary BISP Rab Nawaz on the request of Chairman BISP Anwar Baig on July 20. Anwar Baig had written a letter against Rab Nawaz to PM asking his removal due to his non-professional attitude.   Sources in BISP informed The Nation that Anwar Baig was annoyed with government’s decision for giving additional charge of BISP to Additional Secretary Finance Shabbir Ahmad.  “Baig wanted a full secretary in BISP for achieving the set targets during fiscal years,” sources added.     

The Establishment Division had given the additional charge of secretary BISP to Shabbir Ahmad for three months that completed on November 20. Anwar Baig proposed two names for the post of Secretary BISP but the suggestion was not binding on the Division

Talking to The Nation an official of BISP said that BISP was involved more than hundred billion rupees and the chairman should create friendly relationship with the officials to meet the targets. He said that Anwar Baig would try to avoid interfering in all affairs of BISP and confronting the top officers of BISP. He said that Anwar Baig needs to build a good team for betterment of institution and he must respect the views and proposals of other staff.
