Hala: Funeral prayers of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim were offered today, in his native town Hala.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim passed away at a private hospital in Karachi early today. The funeral prayers were attended by senior leadership of the PPP, including party Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former prime minister Raja Parvaiz Ashraf as well as the leader of the opposition in the national assembly Khursheed Shah, Manzoor Wassan and others.

Due to thousands of people who turned up to attend the funeral prayers which led to disorganization, the funeral prayers were delayed and were finally offered in the evening. Amin Fahim had been ailing for some time and had returned to Pakistan late last month to spend time family and friends. He had been brought to Karachi via an air ambulance on the 26th of October.

Prior to his return, the senior leader and veteran politician had been receiving treatment in Germany, England and the UAE and in light of his deteriorating health he wished to return home to Pakistan for a few days, his spokesman Aslam Pirzada told a private TV channel.

Born in 1939 on the 4th of August in Hala, district Matiari, Amin Fahim contested elections 8 times between 1977 and 2013. During the first tenure of Late Benazir Bhutto Amin Fahim served as Federal Information Minister between 1988 and 1990.

After the 2008 elections Amin Fahim was given the portfolio of Federal Minister for Trade and Industries.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim was a PPP loyalist who never left the party from the first days of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, till the time of his death when Bhutto’s grandson Bilawal took over the helm of affairs of the party. Fahim was said to be one of the most trusted companions of Benazir Bhutto.
