QUETTA - Coordinator Emergency Operation Center, Syed Faisal Ahmed on Monday said that three-day anti-polio drive kicked off in 33 districts of Balochistan.
He said during the drive Vitamin-A drops would also be administered to children alongwith anti-polio vaccination.
He noted that for the anti-polio drive nearly 9764 teams would take part in the drive – which comprised of 8375 mobile teams, 890 fixed sites and 499 transit points. Coordinator maintained that special focus was being paid towards transit points so that to wipe out polio virus from Balochistan.
Syed Faisal Ahmed added they committed to eradicate this crippling virus from the soil of Balochistan.
“Only Pakistan and Afghanistan are the countries in world where polio virus exists,” he said, adding, only one case of polio was reported in Balochistan
in 2017 which belonged to Chaman while five cases were reported in across the country.
He said as many as 11 polio cases were reported in Afghanistan this year and in prospects of these polio cases, precautionary measures were being undertaken to wipe out polio virus in contiguous border areas particularly in Qilla Abdullah and other areas.
He added fear of crippling virus to affect children in Quetta, Pishin and especially in Qilla Abdullah still existed.
