Don’t support anti-judiciary elements, LHCBA to lawyers

LAHORE - The incumbent and former presidents of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Monday stressed upon the legal fraternity not to support those campaigning against the judiciary.

Addressing a joint press conference, LHCBA President Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali and Professional Group head Hamid Khan said that lawyers must stand by sanctity of state institutions and should not support disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif.  Ali said that verdicts could be criticised but in an appropriate way but no one could be allowed to ridicule the judiciary. He said that lawyers would protect the sanctity of the court and not tolerate criticism of the judiciary. He said that lawyers would not allow disrespect of the judiciary and its judgments. He said a handful of lawyers could not be the voice of the entire legal fraternity.

Khan said lawyers had no political agenda and they believed in supremacy of law. He said that a committee consisting of former and incumbent office bearers of the bar had been formed to counter the anti-judiciary campaign.

LHCBA Vice President Rashid Lodhi and Secretary Amir Saeed Rawn also addressed the conference.

Chaudhry Ishtiaq A. Khan, Asghar Ali Gill, Shafqat Mahmood Chohan, Maqsood Buttar, Tahir Nasarullah Warraich, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari and other leaders were also present.
