ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau on Monday arrested four officials of the Capital Development Authority alongwith the owner of Safa Gold Mall on charges of corrupt practices and misuse of authority.

According to the NAB, the four officials — Ghulam Murtaza Malik, the then DDG (Building Control Section) CDA; Khalil Ahmed, the then Director (Building Control Section) CDA; Ammar Idrees, the then Deputy Director (Building Control Section), CDA , Khadim Hussain, the then Assistant Director (Building Control Section) CDA , and Rana Abdul Qayyum, the owner of Safa Gold Mall Islamabad — were arrested in a case related to auction of a plot in F-7 Markaz Islamabad. The matter was referred to the NAB by the Public Account Committee.

The accused have been charged with committing the offence of misuse of authority and corrupt practices.

At a meeting held on November 14, the CDA board decided to cancel the plot lease. The accused will be produced before an Accountability Court on Tuesday for seeking their physical remand.

Last year, the CDA had sealed the mall located in Jinnah Super Market Islamabad for violating building codes and the original layout plan.

Later, the Islamabad High Court conditionally permitted to de-seal Safa Gold Mall subject to the payment of Rs 220 million to the CDA .
