KARACHI - More than 200 top international scientists including 29 Nobel Laureates have welcomed an article co-authored by famous Pakistani scientist Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, published in the international journal “The Neuron”.

A senior official of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK) said that Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, former Federal Minister of Science & Technology & former Chairman HEC co-authored this article, published in the well-known scientific journal Neuron.

The official said that in the paper as many as 122 authors from 82 research centers and 22 countries all over the world have given an overview of successful intercultural science exchange during the ‘Golden Age’ of the medieval Arab and Persian cultures.

“This historic model of tolerance and free exchange of ideas can serve as an inspirational model for efforts today in bridging cultures from the West and the Middle-East/South-Asia by scientific pursuits.” The article emphasizes, “Scientists, as seekers of knowledge, are the ambassadors of humanity and they can unite the world by harnessing the creative power of cultures and international collaborations to eradicate human diseases.”

The official said that international researchers joined forces on a new initiative called ‘The Science Bridge’ to build a better world through science.

“The first goal of the initiative is to engage intercultural research collaborations for accelerating basic scientific discovery and advancing the treatment of diseases. The second aim is to improve human relations between the diverse world cultures, with the current project focusing on Western and Middle-Eastern/South-Asian countries,” he said.

Prof Atta-ur-Rahman is the author of 1082 international publications including 225 books largely published in USA and Europe. He is the most decorated scientist of Pakistan having won 4 civil awards from successive governments, including the highest national award “Nishan-i-Imtiaz”
