Kamal rejects Karachi census results

KARACHI - Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday rejected the census process carried out by the federal government and said that the population of Karachi was shown extremely less in the population and is not acceptable to them.

Addressing a press conference at party headquarters at Nursery, he said that it was for the first time in the history that without auditing the results of the census process, it has been sent to the Prime Minister Imran Khan for approval.

“Even the former president Asif Zardari has rejected the census results of Karachi and said that it was around 30 million as compared to the government figures of 16 million population,” he said adding that approving this census report without carrying out 5 percent audit of the population would be a grave injustice with the people of the province and specially Karachi.

Kamal said that showing less population of the city will deprive it of the due funds and any package would not fulfill its required needs. He demanded of the prime minister that since a major mandate of the city lies with PTI that has 14 national assembly seats, federal ministers, governor Sindh and president from the city therefore it should not remain silent and take practical steps against injust census process.

Reprimanding the silence from MQM-P associated federal cabinet members Barrister Faroogh Naseem and Khalid Maqbool over the issue, Kamal said that they must rise and become the voice of Karachites.

Speaking on the encroachment issue, he said that the mayor Karachi and the Sindh government is ignoring the intensity of this issue and should provide the affectees with substitutes as given by him during his mayorship tenure during anti-encroachment drives.

Castigating the economic conditions, the chairman said that inflation is increasing manifolds and is influencing the common man directly.
