Greenshirts in Dubai for Volleyball

ISLAMABAD-Pakistans 12-man squad left for Dubai to participate in the 11th Al-Rashid International Mens Volleyball Championship 2009, which will kick off on Thursday at Dubai Sports City, United Arabs Emirates (UAE). Green shirts embarked on PK 211 from Benazir Bhuttoo Shaheed International Airport Islamabad. Zafeer Abbas is leading the national volleyball team for the five-nation international volleyball fixture. Pakistan will play their first match on Thursday. Later, secretary, Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Major (Retd) Muhammad Afzal told reporters here Tuesday that Pakistan would meet hosts UAE, Indonesia, Thailand, Bahrain and Oman during the seven-day international volleyball event. The final will be played on October 28, 2009, he added. He said that PVF selected the team after conducting a hectic training camp at Laiquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex. the event will starts from October 22nd and will be conclude on October 28th while green shirts will play his first on Thursday. Muhammad Afzal said that ace spikier Zaheer Abbas would lead the green shirts in the championship while Shah Rukh, Pir Bakhs Yasin, Asif Nadeem, Syed Shujja Abbas, Mohib Rasool, Imdad Hussain, Nasir Khan, Ali Abbas, Farooq Khan, Munir Khan and Muhammad Ismail Khan would be the members of the team. "Pakistan claimed bronze medal in the 10th edition of Al-Rashid International Mens Volleyball Championship 2009", he concluded.
