ISLAMABAD Interior Minister Rehman Malik narrowly escaped the wrath of angry students of Islamic University who were in a mood to thrash him as they chanted slogans against him besides pelting stones on his bullet proof vehicle. Had the Ministers guard not whisked him away, the furious students of the ill-fated varsity would have given him a lesson over the security failure. Permanent guards with the Minister followed next level of security SOPs finding the situation getting out of control in a minute. According to details, Malik visited the blast site where national and international media was waiting for him and he too intended to talk to them. But he could not speak even a word as scores of enraged students had started chanting slogans against him and the government. The university campus echoed with slogans like 'Shame Shame, which students shouted at Malik and said that the blasts in the campus were the result of Pakistans involvement in the US-led war on terror. University students pelted stones at him, which forced him to leave the place without talking to the journalists. The students of the Islamic International University also echoed with anti-America slogans as the Minister left. The situation became so precarious that the top police officials including IG Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam and DIG Islamabad Bin Yameen, who were waiting for the Minister hurriedly left the place to escape the stones. The excessive security escort of the Minister added to the students rage as they had seen their fellow students die because there was no security for them.
