ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has requested the Ministry of Health to increase the salaries of health department staff on the pattern of police department keeping in view their due role in providing medical care in the current deteriorating law and order situation. The hospital administration had submitted the proposal to the Health Ministry six months back but yet the Ministrys response is awaited in this regard. Whereas the endless deadly suicide attacks across the country have perplexed the general public as well the health professionals and they are left with no choice but dragging themselves on the routine track. With every passing day the security situation is getting worse and the gravity of the situation can be gauge from the recent suicide attacks on the International Islamic University Islamabad. In recent past the miscreants also targeted hospitals in Dera Ismail Khan and the panic gripped the Capital when in past the two major public sector hospitals including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) commonly known as Polyclinic received threats of terrorist attacks. The hospitals and their staff also become a substantial target for the terrorists whenever the VIPs visit the hospitals to inquire about the health of the injured after any terrorist attack, as the VIPs are always the prime target of the terrorists. Even the Polyclinic has shifted its emergency department outside the building in the wake of any possible terrorist attack.
