ISLAMABAD - Resolving to take the Operation Rah-e-Nijat to its logical end at all costs, the government on Tuesday decided to put the political issues on the back burner while tackling security matters upfront. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari for a one on one emergent meeting after the twin blasts in the Islamic International University and discussed political issues. An official handout issued after the meeting stated that the two discussed both the security and the political issues. Well-placed sources informed TheNation, the President had desired prioritization of the burning issues. The President who is also the defecto head of the ruling party has desired the government to focus on the security matters, in the first place, pending the political issues including that of highly controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance. The President as the Supreme Commander of the countrys Armed Forces also asked the Prime Minister to reinforce the ongoing army operation in South Waziristan with provision of all possible resources to security forces, the sources added. The President and the Prime Minister also deliberated on intelligence-lead search and clearance operations in rest of the country to nab the associates of Taliban. The sources said that the President asked for a comprehensive strategy on preempting retaliatory attacks by the Taliban. The desired strategy needs utmost coordination between all the law enforcement agencies at all levels, the sources added quoting the President as saying. According to the sources, the President desired the issue of Kerry Lugar Burner Act as a closed chapter, NRO to be left as pending, and the security on top of the governments agenda.
