LAHORE Pakistan cricket team captain Younus Khan is willing to accept future challenges and wants to lead the team in the forthcoming split series against New Zealand in the UAE and later in New Zealand. He said that he was overwhelmed with the support he had received from the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. But his reinstatement has ignited anxiety among players who fear a backlash from him. A certain group of players were already annoyed over the way with which Younus lead the team and his place back in the team as skipper would once again produce split in the team. The support that I have received from the board and the country through this time has been fantastic. Some of the players feeling worried have also questioned his (Younus) place in the team keeping in view his performance. Younus in the Champions Trophy matches scored 53 runs in three games and his figures are of 17 plus average. He did not play against the West Indies due to injury, 20 against India, 18 against Australia and 15 against New Zealand. While looking at his recent match average he does not even fit to be selected as a player and if he is not taken as a captain he does not have a place in the team. Younus said he will to be fit for the forthcoming Pakistans ODI and Twenty20 series against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Chairman PCB Ijaz Butt had refused the resignation of Younus Khan and appointed him captain till World Cup 2011, accepting majority of the demands, Youus put forth during his last meeting with the chairman and it has also been learnt that pressure of a certain political party has played a vital role in the rejection of his resignation. But for right now things seems to have settled down but in what way the players would react would come to light in the coming series. The differences that were developed among the national cricket camp would surely take some time but Younus as a captain have to play a very vital role in wining back the confidence of some of the senior players or otherwise the chances are that fresh blood infusion in the team is likely to happen.
