ISLAMABAD - Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday warned of far reaching implications if the PPP-led ruling coalition blindly granted the status of Most-Favoured Nation (MNF) to India. Addressing a press conference here at the Punjab House, he said that New Delhi has been cheating Pakistan in the past on major issues including the core issue of Kashmir, therefore, the government should take the opposition and other stakeholders on board for granting MNF status to India. Nisar lamented that the government has so far not taken either the opposition or other stakeholders on board in this regard. He noted that India always remained firmed on its policy towards Pakistan and always tried to mar Pakistans interests, then why the government was showing such a relaxation, he asked while terming the decision as childish. He was of the view that granting India MNF status would not only impact Pakistans economy but would also have geo-political impacts in the region. He, however, clarified that his party was not in favour of war with the neighbouring country. He made it clear that PML-N doesnt support war with India but the issue of granting MFN status should have been brought to the Parliament for discussion. The PML-N leader also raised his concerns over the reports regarding President Zardaris letter to US administration sent via outgoing US army chief Admiral Mike Mullen exactly one week after Abbotabad raid to kill al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden. A British daily reported that a week after the covert US raid in Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden, President Asif Ali Zardari sought to reach out to the Obama administration to stop army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani from staging a coup, a Pakistani-American businessman has said. The memo was sent through Mike Mullen, report further alleged. Nisar said he had raised the issue during the National Assembly session but the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani did not bother to speak whether the president wrote a letter to US government or not. The opposition leader asked the President to clarify his position on the report. The PML-N leader also accused law ministry of pressurising officials of Election Commission of Pakistan and demanded of the government to let the commission function independently. PML-N wants the next elections free and fair, and ECP must be freed from any political or government official, he added. Answering a question, Chaudhry Nisar said the US secretary of state had expressed desire to meet Nawaz Sharif but he was proceeding to Turkey. If I meet Hillary Clinton I will talk to her about national interest. Now the US instead of Pakistan will have to take decisions that as to how friendship has to be maintained with Pakistan. We are against to specific US thinking and not the US. He said he would inform visiting US State Secretary Hillary Clinton about the decisions taken during All Parties Conference (APC). When asked about whether or not Sheikh Rashidw would join PML-N, Chaudhry Nisar said he had no objection to joining of PML-N by any one. He said those having dual citizenship should not be allowed to become member of Parliament. Why President Zardari is worried about Mian Nawaz Sharifs visit to Sindh, he questioned. PPP leadership was opposing Nawaz Sharif because people of Sindh had welcomed Nawaz Sharif beyond expectations, he observed. He indicated that the government had deferred DHA bill and PML-N would talk to government on this issue. Defence secretary would give briefing to PML-N on this matter, he told. He stated that several key political figures would announce to join PML-N within some weeks.
