LAHORE From next year, the Punjab police will get training from the Turkish instructors. This has been decided in principal, according to the meeting minutes, signed on Thursday between the visiting Turkish National Police Deputy Director General, Ahmet PEK, and Punjab top cop Javed Iqbal. The signing ceremony took place at Special Branch here. According to the minutes, the focal point of the Turkish trainers will be the enhancement of the Punjab polices forensic capacity. The other areas the foreign trainers will be looking after during the training period are provision of assistance, training and guidance, monitoring and administration. The police chiefs of both the brotherly countries also agreed to ensure the working level and coordination on regular basis for effective implementation of co-operational activities. The cooperation between the Turkish National Police and the Punjab law-enforcement agencies shall focus primarily on capacity building, a police spokesman said. The capacity building activities will be undertaken in three specific thematic areas -- Organizational Development, Operational Capability and Technical Expertise, he added. The officers of the rank of SSP will get training of organizational development while officers of the rank of inspector and above for operational capability and officers of the rank of constable will get the training of technical and tactical policing, according to the spokesman. According to the minutes, the Punjab police will draw up and finalise by 31 December a calendar of the collaborative activities to be undertaken in the year 2012. Moreover, the Turkish National Police will also provide training assistance to the Punjab police officers and officials in the areas of national security intelligence, anti-terrorism intelligence, technical and electronic intelligence, interrogation and interview techniques, crime intelligence analysis, surveillance techniques, canine training and de-radicalisation process and prevention of radicalisation in its combat against terrorism. According to the signed document, it has been decided to appoint focal persons for constant communication and exchange of information on regular basis between the police forces of the brotherly countries. In the document, it has also been mentioned that a monitoring report regarding the implementation of this agreement will be furnished before the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on quarterly basis.
