LAHORE - Famous singer Zubaida Khanum, who passed away on Saturday night, was laid to rest here at Mian Sahib Graveyard on Sunday.

Zubaida Khanum’s funeral prayer was offered near her residence in West Woods Colony Raiwaind road and was attended by a large number of people from showbiz circles as well as friends and relatives. She was 78. She survived with two daughters, two sons and 15 grand daughters and sons. Khanum was born in 1935 in Amritsar. Her family migrated to Lahore after partition. She was considered best playback singers of fifties. She sang more than 200 Urdu and Punjabi songs in 147 movies. She started her career from film Shehri Babu in 1953 of Nazir and Swaranlata Rashid Attre was the music composer. She also acted in ‘Patey Khan’ and ‘Morni’.

‘Mera nishana dekhe zamana’, ‘Teri ulfat mein sanam dil ne buhut dard sahe’, ‘Aaye mausam rangeelay suhane’, ‘Ghoonghat utha loun yah ghoonghat chupa loun’, ‘Chalak rahi hain mastiyan’ and ‘Kiya hua dil pe sitam’ are few of her famous songs.
