Army to guard G’wala polling stations in LG polls

Pakistan Army will be deployed at all sensitive polling stations to be set up for local bodies elections in the district and a request has been sent to the authorities for four army companies.
The polling for the first phase of the local bodies elections will be held in Gujranwala district on November 19.
According to Gujranwala District Returning Officer Rafaqat Ali Naswana, to ensure transparency in the upcoming LB elections, it has been decided to seek cooperation of all civil and military agencies. He said that army personnel would be deployed in and outside the polling stations. He said that a committee, comprising four members including CPO Waqas Nazir, DCO Amir Jaan, the DRO and Deputy Election |Commissioner Nadeem Qasim has also been constituted to vet election arrangements. He informed that a total of 1,810 polling stations and 4,933 polling booths - 2,747 for male and 2,186 for female - would be set up in the district. He said that there are a total of about 2.4 million voters including 1.38 million male and 1.03 female - who would exercise their right to franchise in the district.
FIA RAID: FIA team raided and arrested manager of Shahroz enterprises and recovered four passports and other documents from his custody. Reportedly, Naveed has been involved in running a training centre for overseas employment illegally.
HEARING PUT OFF: The Gujranwala Anti-Terrorism Court No-1 adjourned the hearing of a case of two allegedly terrorists till October 27, the other day.
The court put off the hearing for completion of the challan. The CTD arrested two suspects - Ansar Hayyat and Sajjad Sharif - on September 10, from Wazirabad and recovered three hand grenades from their custody. The CTD sources said that both the accused have got training from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
