National Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Tuesday maintained the upfront tariff for the wind power plants at Rs 10.6048 per kilowatt.

The Authority in June this year, announced the same tariff but on request of stakeholders reviewed its decision.

The Rs. 10.6048/Kiolwatt tariff, announced earlier this year was lower than the previous tariff of Rs 13.1998/kWh. The authority said that the decrease was due to advancement in technology which has brought down the project cost. According to the decision new tariff will be limited to the extent of net annual energy generation supplied to the power purchaser up to 35pc net annual plant capacity factor.

Only wind power generation companies recommended by the relevant agency for the grant of upfront tariff, and those who can certify that they will install new plant and machinery as per international standards, with installed capacity up to 250MW will be eligible to avail the new rates.

The choice to opt for this tariff will only be available up to 180 days from the date of gazette notification of this review decision of the Authority and the companies, however, those who have already been awarded Upfront Tariff 2015, may also apply.

The companies has been asked to achieve financial close within one year from the date of this decision, otherwise it would not be applicable to them. New tariff will be applicable for a period of twenty (20) years from the commencement of commercial operations.
