LAHORE -  Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review the programme of provision of laptops to talented students, here yesterday.

Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that empowering the youth by equipping them with modern knowledge is the mission of Punjab government.

He said that lakhs of laptops have been distributed among talented students on merit at a cost of billions of rupees. He said that provision of resources for educating students is a useful investment. Lakhs of more laptops will be given on merit to the youth within next one and a half years, he added.

The Chief Minister said that distribution of laptops among talented students is an important step towards promotion of modern knowledge. He said that programme of distribution of laptops is of paramount importance for the education and empowerment of the youth.

Expressing indignation over delay in the procurement and distribution of laptops, the Chief Minister said that he will not tolerate delay in programme of distribution of laptops regarding education and training of youth. He said that Higher Education Department had to discharge its responsibility in the programme of provision of laptops.

He said that this important public welfare project will have to be moved forward speedily. He said that future of Pakistan is linked with information technology and Punjab government has taken effective steps for the promotion of IT in the province. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Chief Secretary, Secretary Higher Education, Chairman P&D, Chairman PITB and concerned authorities were present.
