Afghanistan is one of the world’s biggest producers of opium and other drugs. The drug problem in Afghanistan has proven not only to cause physical problems but also mental disturbances within the Afghan population. A United Nations report has found out that, out of a population of 30 million, between 1.9 to 2.4 million people are drug addicts in Afghanistan. This issue is slowly poisoning the Afghan society, and if it is not addressed, its threshold will keep on increasing.
The government of Afghanistan should take necessary steps towards the eradication of this social ill, and work towards providing rehab and treatment facilities.
