rawalpindi - Five persons sustained critical injuries and five vehicles were damaged when an oil tanker hit them from rear side at Soan Bridge on GT Road yesterday.

According to details, a speeding oil tanker ran over the vehicles on Soan Bridge after failure of its brakes. The oil tanker also turned turtle in the middle of the road causing a bumper to bumper traffic jam on the road. The driver of the oil tanker was also among the injured.

After occurrence of the incident, Rescue 1122 rescuers were called in who moved the injured to DHQ for medical treatment. The injured were identified as Shihab (37), Gulzar (36) and Nazar 36 while the names of two other maimed could not be obtained.

Meanwhile, heavy cranes of National Highway Department reached the spot to remove the oil tanker and other vehicles from the road.  City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, when contacted, said the incident took place after brakes of oil tanker failed. He said five people were injured when oil tanker rammed into vehicles on the GT Road.

He said the rescue teams reached the place and removed the wreckage of damaged vehicles and the oil tanker, and also opened the road for traffic. He said the injured were brought to DHQ for cure where doctors stated their condition is out of danger.
