KARACHI - The law-enforcement agencies on Thursday barred Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London workers from entering the Yadgar-e-Shuhda, adjacent to Jinnah Ground, Azizabad.

According to details, MQM leaders, workers and supporters gathered near MQM sealed headquarters, ‘Nine Zero’ to offer fateha at the monument of slain MQM workers. Heavy contingents of law-enforcement agencies, including police and Rangers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the Yadgar.

A large number of workers, including women and children, tried to make their way into the memorial but the Rangers personnel stopped them from proceeding further.

The charged mob chanted slogans in favour of the party founder, Altaf Hussain, and managed to reach close to the monument. MQM coordination committee members, including Kanwar Khalil Younus, Advocate Sathi Ishaq and others offered Fateha along with the workers before leaving the locality.

The enraged workers demanded reopening of the MQM headquarters, release of missing workers and stopping operation against the MQM. Using spry paints, they wrote slogans on the walls in the favour of their party chief.

It’s worth mentioning here that wall chalking done by MQM elements had been removed from the surroundings of Azizabad by covert operators before it appeared again on Thursday.

It has been reported that the security agencies have picked up a MQM leader, Sathi Ishaq, while the concerned authorities are yet to confirm the arrest.
