ISLAMABAD - Muzammil Murtaza made the biggest upset of his short playing career as he eliminated Davis Cupper and third seed Shahzad Khan 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the First Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championship Thursday.

In other matches, top seed Aqeel Khan, 2nd seed M Abid and 4th seed Heera Ashiq also moved into the semi-finals

Muzammil, 18, played superb tennis from the baseline, which put veteran Shahzad under enormous pressure. Shahzad started the first set on a high note and took the set 6-3 but Muzammil bounced back in style to take the second set 6-3 by playing consistent game at the baseline. Muzammil proved too good in the third and deciding set as Muzammil hammered Shahzad 6-0 in the final set to set up semi-final date with second seed Abid who easily defeated Aman Atiq 6-2 and 6-0.

Pakistan’s longest serving number 1 player Aqeel teach a tennis lesson to sixth seed Ahmed Chaudhry 6-1 and 6-2. Aqeel was in awesome form and didn’t allow Ahmed any chance to settle down in the match. He faces third seed Heera in the second semi-final, who outplayed Barkatullah in straight sets 6-1.
