KARACHI - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday demanded a high-level probe against Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan in the light of very serious allegations leveled against him.
Dr Arif Alvi, PTI Sindh chapter President, made this demand while addressing a press conference at Insaf House.
PTI leaders Firdaus Shamim Naqvi, Javed Awan and Dawa Khan Sabir were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media men, the PTI leader said that the recent exchange of accusations between Mustafa Kamal of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan was of very serious nature, and the people of Karachi were deeply concerned.
“It is not merely a dispute between the former leaders of MQM. It is finger pointing and provides evidence about criminal activities of the MQM in the city, which have been going on for more than 25 years,” he said, and added, “The sitting governor of the province has accused PSP members, particularly Mustafa Kamal, of mega corruption during his tenure as Karachi mayor, including land grabbing and China-cutting besides target killings.”
“However, as per these allegations by the former mayor, lucrative contracts in Karachi were awarded to friends and relatives of the governor,” he added.
He also alleged that important people of MQM were involved in demanding bhatta from Baldia factory owners.
Alvi said there were also reports that money was taken from the factory owners for the compensation of families of those 300 people who had perished in the incident, and that the amounts had not reached the deserving recipients.
Alvi reminded that Mustafa Kamal had also accused the governor of major corruption and taking bribes for land grabbing. “Kamal has leveled the charge that Ebad, who was claiming British social help before he became the governor, now owns properties in London,” PTI leader added.
He was allegedly in communication with MQM founder and that he embezzled huge funds, besides preventing people from joining the PSP.
The PTI leader said these major revelations about bribery, bhatta, China-cutting and target killings as well as anti -state activities, receiving of funding from RAW and stockpiling arms and ammunitions for fighting against the armed forces were of very serious nature, warranting a high-level probe.
He said these revelations were made by a serving Governor of the province, an ex-mayor of Karachi, and by an ex home minister of the province.
He said that PTI wanted filing a legal petition in the Sindh High Court.
“PTI also demands resignation of the governor with immediate effect. It also demands immediate open inquiry by the Sindh High Court, and putting all the accused persons’ names on Exit Control List as a first step,” Alvi added.
He demanded that exemplary punishments be awarded to the culprits as Karachi had suffered enough.
