ISLAMABAD - A senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Siddique-ul-Farooq has said that the high command of his party has asked Chaudhry Nisar, leader of opposition in the National Assembly, not to resign from Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship. Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will summon the PAC session soon, he said while talking to TheNation. When asked about Nisars decision about PAC chairmanship, he said Chaudhry Nisar had been instructed not to resign from the committees chairmanship. Avoiding to comment on the issue further, Siddique-ul-Farooq said the PAC session would be called shortly. It would not be out of place to mention here that Chairman PAC Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has reportedly said that he has decided to resign from the committee as a protest against the appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as Auditor General of Pakistan and non-cooperative attitude of the Federal Government. It was also learnt that the audit report pertaining to the accounts of the incumbent government would most likely be discussed in the next PAC meeting. Earlier, Chaudhry Nisar had dissolved all the PACs special committees and sub-committees, saying that no special or subcommittees of the PAC could hold any meeting before a proper meeting of the PAC itself. He reportedly gave two reasons for dissolving the PAC subcommittees - appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as Auditor General and non-compliance of PAC directives by the government. He had further reportedly commented that the government has given the position of auditor general of Pakistan to a controversial figure, which laid bare the governments intentions. It is also relevant to mention here that over 25 per cent of the total members of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have requisitioned the PAC committee session and under Article 54(3) of the Constitution, the PAC chairman is bound to convene meeting within 14 days after receiving the requisition by his secretariat. Meanwhile, sources said that another controversy has been triggered that National Assembly Secretariat was not accepting the photocopy of requisition that was submitted a couple of days before. When contacted, senior member PAC, PPP MNA Yasmeen Rehman said they are expecting that Chaudhry Nisar would summon PAC meeting soon. We have also requested him to summon meeting as its working was going good, she added. In order to recheck about their requisition, she had talked to Secretary NA and it was told to her that photocopy was received without any date. However, she said that the matter would be resolved soon as PAC meeting would be summoned shortly.
