Our Staff Reporter KARACHI President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also Patron of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Tuesday advised PCB to shift Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cricket Tournament from Lahore to Karachi. President Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) Professor Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari has welcomed the intervention of President for changing the venue of the event. According to a news release of the KCCA, President Zardari has hoped that another Twenty20 tournament will be held in Lahore when things settled down. This direction was issued at a meeting of the sport legends and sports organisers with the President which held here at Bilawal House. The meeting was attended by sports legends Javed Miandad, Samiullah, Hasan Sardar, Hanif Khan, Sikandar Bakht, Sadiq Muhammad, Wasim Bari, Saeed Hai, Mohsin Khan, Shahid Khan Afridi and a host of other outstanding sports stars and eminent sports administrators which included Gulfaraz Ahmed Khan of Hockey and S Sirajul Islam Bukhari president KCCA. It is pertinent to mention that due to the spread of deadly dengue virus in Lahore, there were continuous concerns over the holding of the event at the Gaddafi Stadium. But the PCB was hesitant to move the event to another city as all the arrangement have been finalised. Former Pakistan captain and Director General PCB Javed Miandad was also in favour of having the event shifted from Lahore to Karachi and had initiated the manoeuvring to get the championship shifted, which is scheduled to be held from September 25. The Board has been steadfast in its stance that it had been assured by the Punjab government that the tournament can be held in Lahore without any issues and that there would be proper precautionary measures taken to keep the players safe. Prof. Bukhari, while welcoming the advice of the President to Ijaz Butt in this direction, has hoped that the PCB chairman will take his advice positively. He hoped that the arrangements for the T20 tournament to hold in Karachi be taken up where there is no such problem of dengue and the rains have also stopped. Earlier, Mr Haleem Adil Shaikh, Advisor to the Chief Minister speaking on the occasion hoped that the T20 event to be shifted to Karachi from Lahore where menace of dengue fever has engulfed the city.
