LAHORE - Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) lawmaker Riaz Hussain Pirzada is likely to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on the announcement of upcoming general elections, close aides of Pirzada said on Thursday.

“Pirzada has joined the PML-N, but a formal announcement is likely to be made on the election schedule,” they said, adding that the PML-Q parliamentarian wants to complete his term.

When contacted, Pirzada said: “My constituents want me to contest the upcoming polls from the PML-N platform that supports restoring the status of province to Bahawalpur.” He also suggested that all factions of the Muslim League should reunite to become an ideological force under Nawaz Sharif.

The lawmaker has been disgruntled by the PML-Q leadership over some issues, including that of development funds, his removal as a federal minister and job quota for his constituency.

Earlier, the PML-Q parliamentarian met with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind, said a handout. Talking to him, Nawaz said his party welcomed all the Leaguers.

He took a swipe at the PPP-led federal government for its failure to deliver, saying: “The coalition has added to people’s woes. The allied government’s performance is zero. Serious problems like inflation, unemployment, lawlessness and loadshedding have never been addressed and allies shared the responsibility of bad governance.”

Talking about his party-led government, he said Punjab witnessed a record development work. He promised his party would put the country on the road to progress after winning upcoming general elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Pirzada stressed the need for reunion of all factions of the Pakistan Muslim League under Nawaz Sharif as the masses had pinned hope on Nawaz to steer the country of crisis. He rapped the federal government for its bad governance. Pirzada also presented various proposals to Nawaz for public welfare in South Punjab. Nawaz said the Punjab government, led by Shahbaz Sharif, would leave no stone unturned to deliver as it had set new examples of service and development of South Punjab. The Punjab chief minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Khwaja Asif were present on the occasion.

Pirzada clinched NA-186 seat on PML-Q ticket in 2008. PML-N MPA from PP-273 Kazim Pirzada happens to be his nephew. MPA from PP-274 Muhammad Safdar Gill is believed to have won the election with the support of Pirzadas.
