LAHORE - The Joint Action Committee of the Pakistan International Airline Employees (JACPIAE) on behalf of all employees of the national flag carrier has expressed its dismay over the resignation of Rao Qamar Suleman as chairman.

JACPIAE office-bearers viewed that Qamar’s resignation came at a time when the airline needed a person of his calibre and integrity the most.

“A selection board with a plausible representation of PIA employees should be formed to select, through advertisements in the national press, a professional successor to Rao Qamar Suleman,” demanded the committee.

In a statement issued after a meeting of the committee on Thursday, they said: “We are closely monitoring the situation created after the resignation of Rao Qamar Suleman because it will negatively impact the national airlines, especially when it has embarked on the most crucial Haj operation.”

“After prolonged deliberation, we have decided to place on record that it is high time that an aviation professional be selected to lead the national airlines through a transparent process in which PIA employees must be represented,” said the statement.

The JACPIAE urged the government not to nominate or appoint anyone with doubtful record on this important post at this critical juncture because this could further damage the national flag carrier.

The meeting was attended by the Pakistan Airline Pilots Association (PALPA), Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan (SAEP), Aircraft Technologists Association of Pakistan (ATAP), Flight Engineers National Association (FENA), Alliance of Friends, Air League and PACCA.
