Speakers seek teachers' passion for nation building

 FAISALABAD - Speakers at a seminar called for ensuring quality education to fulfill the dream of progress and to cope with different challenges being faced by the country. In this regard, committed and capable teachers are key to ensuring quality education and produce good engineers, doctors, civil servants and politicians. The daylong seminar titled "Quality Assurance Leads to Quality Teaching" was arranged by Government College University Faisalabad's Quality Enhancement Cell in collaboration with Learning Innovation Division, Higher Education Commission Islamabad. It was presided over by GCUF Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Hussain. QEC Director Dr Zubair Ahmad, Dean Science and Technology Dr Noureen Aziz, Dean Dr M Shahbaz Arif, Dr Riaz Hussain Dab, Director Medical Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad QEC Director Dr Anwarul Hassan Khan and Zeshan Ahmad Khan addressed the seminar. Talking about performance of the GCUF, the Vice Chancellor said, "It is the matter of pride that the University had clinched 91 percent in Quality Assurance across the country, according to the rating of the Higher Education Commission." The university was the topper in the Quality Assurance last year with 73 percent as well.  The vice chancellor said the University was bearing deficit budget two years ago but now, because of good financial interventions, the University's surplus budget had gone up to Rs 480 million this year. Pointing out quality education, the vice chancellor said that it was the only way out, adding that teachers make the fate of a nation. He urged teachers to put their full efforts to remove the deficiencies of students and produce a trained and skilled manpower to meet the challenges of the modern era. He said excellent teachers are those who have passion for learning. He said that now, the university was standing among the top universities of country as it had emerged to number sixth in the span of  10 years of its life as varsity. He lauded the steps taken on the part of the HEC to improve the quality education for making them at par with international standard by raising the education and uplifting the status of teaching staff with high pay. He thanked Dr Riaz Hussain, the adviser to HEC, for his efforts in establishing a Quality Assurance Cell to upgrade education. Dr Zubair Ahmed said that, quality culture was flourishing rapidly in this university. He said quality assurance was the planned and systematic review process of an institution or programme to determine standards of education, scholarship and infrastructure.
