PCMEA elects Cooki chairman, Razi vice chairman

LAHORE - Pakistan Carpets Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PCMEA) has elected Maj (r) Akhtar Nazir Khan Cooki as its new central chairman unopposed for the year 2013-14, while Kamran Razi was elected as vice chairman for the North Zone and Naeem Sajid as vice chairman for the South Zone.
The PCMEA will hold its annual general meeting on Sept 25th, where new elected body will take oath. The newly-elected chairman Maj (r) Akhtar Nazir Khan Cooki, the veteran of carpet industry and who has become the chairman second time, expressed his resolve to promote the softer image of Pakistan across the world through exports of handmade carpets.
Cooki said that the PCMEA has been providing a significant opportunity for exporters to enhance country’s brand visibility and to promote new and existing products. He said that the Association in partnership with TDAP has been seeking to expand world market share of hand knotted carpets and develop domestic market as well by removing all kinds of hurdles in this regard. The new chairman said that PCMEA has explored new markets like China and Turkey, as the later has now become the fourth largest importer of hand-knotted carpets of Pakistan.
Kamran Razi, Vice Chairman PCMEA North Circle, said that Association is organizing Pakistan Hand Knotted Capet Exhibition 2013 from 22nd to 25th October at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore. More than 70 customers from around the world have already confirmed their participation this is annual event. This exhibition will give a significant boost to the exports of handmade carpets.
He further said that Pakistan has to make extra efforts to tap the potential of carpet exports to emerging markets like China and Turkey. PCMEA is planning to participate in 5 major exhibitions in China this year. Razi said that the TDAP, Embassy & Trade Missions of Pakistan in China should extend their full cooperation to the association in making these events successful.
