60 arrested in anti-crime op

LAHORE: Police yesterday arrested more than 60 suspected persons in an anti-crime operation.

A spokesman said the action was part of the National Action Plan to smash. Earlier, Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf ordered the police to step up clampdown on the elements involved in land-grabbing, drug-pushing, and those running dens.

According to the city police, at least 32 drug-peddlers and 20 gamblers were among the 67 persons arrested from various parts of the metropolis yesterday. Some 15 persons were arrested for possessing firearms illegally, the spokesman said.

The police teams also seized 12kg charas, 1.59kg heroin, and 426 bottles of liquor during the crackdown. Similarly, the police also recovered one rifle, 12 pistols and cash from the arrested suspects. Also, the police filed criminal cases against the suspects in different police stations.–Staff Reporter
