KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will preferably investigate the cases involving over Rs.100 million pecuniary loss in line with court directions and the bureau’s own fair thought process.

This was decided by NAB Chairman Major (retd) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry while chairing a performance review meeting at NAB Karachi, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

“However in particular circumstances like in HESCO recovery case, suspicious transaction cases refered by Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) etc the pecuniary limit shall not bar NAB from proceeding against culprits, involved is less than Rs100 million,” it added.

The NAB chairman reiterated his resolve to fight corruption with iron hands, besides promoting public awareness through awareness and prevention cadre of the NAB.

He insisted Investigation Officers (IOs) to show highest standards of investigations during conduct of proceeding in cases registered at the NAB.

He further reiterated to investigate the cases through Combined Investigation Team (CIT) rather than one IO, investigating case single handedly. Because of CIT in place unlike police practice the request by individuals for change of IO is not being entertained in the NAB.

The NAB chairman also emphasised upon the need for discharging duties within timeline, with professional acumen and honesty.

While reviewing progress made on important cases, he directed that the cases be completed to logical conclusion as per SOP and law within given timelines.

He shared with participants that the NAB is hosting SAARC Conference on anti-corruption next week, which is aimed to garner external support in terms of sharing of expertise and the best practices as well as for seeking cooperation as and when required.

The NAB chairman appreciated the performance of Karachi chapter and expressed his satisfaction over its overall working.
