LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the PML-N workers to exercise restraint and not react to any protest demonstration.

In a handout issued yesterday, the chief minister said that groups like a baton-wielding force will not be tolerated. He added that due to anti-progress steps of Imran Khan, his supporters were leaving him which could be judged from the results of recent by-election in Chechawatni.

“Imran Khan’s desire for power through anarchy will never be fulfilled,” the CM held.

He further said that no office-bearer or worker can be allowed to take law in his hand in any city or area, and law will come into action against anyone who will do so.

“PML-N politics is based on public service whereas others are motivated by desire for power,” Shehbaz said, adding that people fully understand the motives of PTI leaders.

He further directed the workers to keep party offices closed in the relevant area on the day of demonstration.

Calling the PTI workers “our own children”, the CM stated that their protection is also the government’s responsibility.

Shehbaz Sharif also expressed the hope that workers of PML-N will maintain their historic traditions at this critical hour.

Separately talking to Railways Minister Kh Saad Rafiq, CM Shehbaz  said the people have rejected the politicians doing politics of protests.

 “The result of by-elections is a lesson for politicians who are doing nothing but affecting national development,” the CM said.

 Saad congratulated him on the success of PML-N in by-election of NA 162.  The chief minister said journey of selfless service to the people will continue.

Also, CM Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting that decided to set up an autonomous authority to promote trade activities and increase business opportunities in the province.  The CM directed the authorities concerned to step up work over the matter.

Work should be forwarded rapidly by constituting a team comprising best persons in this regard, he said adding that a comprehensive strategy should be devised to expedite business activities.  The departments concerns should play an active role for promoting business activities, he added.

Shehbaz said that performance of institutions can be improved through promotion of e-government.

He said that e-stamp papers have been introduced in 21 districts of the province and scope of this project will be expanded throughout the province by the end of November this year.

Provincial Ministers Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Ch Muhammad Shafiq, Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, concerned secretaries, office-bearers of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, business personalities and concerned officials were present on the occasion.

Also, CM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his party’s anti-terrorism resolve in his message on World Peace Day.

“The goal of lasting peace cannot be achieved without elimination of racial and religious discrimination within and outside geographical frontiers,” he added.

The Chief Minister said Pakistan is playing a vanguard role in the efforts for peace and harmony in the world.

“Pakistan has been facing terrorism and extremism for years, resulting in a huge loss to national economy. Terrorists have shed the blood of innocent Pakistanis in streets, bazaars, educational institutions, mosques, Imam Barghas and other worship places,” he added.

But, he said, the credit goes to the PML-N government that during its tenure, political and military leadership evolved a comprehensive National Action Plan with mutual consensus for rooting out terrorism from Pakistan and effective measures have been adopted in the country especially Punjab for this purpose.

He said that it is the result of effective implementation of National Action Plan that peace has been restored.

The CM said that Punjab government has also made necessary amendments to the laws for enhancing punishments while it has also set up a modern and highly trained Counterterrorism Force, first time in the history of the country, which is playing a key role in the elimination of terrorism and maintenance of peace in the province.

Similarly, he said, punitive action has been intensified against offenders under Tenancy Act, Wall Chalking Amendment Act, Arms Amendment Act, Punjab Sound System Act 2015 and Public Order Act 2015 and action is being taken without any discrimination.

The CM said that measures taken under National Action Plan have laid the basis for peace in the province and law and order situation in Punjab is better than others and a large number of investors from different countries are making investment in the province.

He said that the steps being taken with regard to implementation of National Action Plan are yielding positive results and Pakistan is more secure and peaceful today than before. He said that the war against terrorism is the war for survival of future generations and has to be won at any cost. He said that Pakistani nation is determined to root out terrorism and extremism and this menace will be eradicated from the country with the force of unity.

He said that only those nations can realize the importance of peace as have faced wars and the brave people of Pakistan and their valiant armed forces, law enforcement agencies and police are fighting against terrorism and thousands of precious lives have been lost. He said that those who have sacrificed their lives in this war are national heroes and the whole nation is proud of them.

Shehbaz said that the purpose of observing World Peace Day is to highlight the importance of peace and to draw attention to the efforts of individuals and different institutions towards setting up of a peaceful society. He said that the World Peace Day also reminds to accelerate the endeavors for the maintenance of peace and law and order. He said that on this day, the pledge to avoid war and to live in peace for survival of mankind should be renewed.

He said the Army has achieved glorious successes in operation Zarb-e-Azb and broken the back of terrorists. He said that a decisive war is being fought on every front against terrorism, extremism and sectarianism and the final victory will be of Pakistani nation.
