Lahore - SMEs in Pakistan can increase their share in the world market by developing brands for their products, said an international market expert, Nadeem Mustafa, while addressing a training programme arranged by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) here on Tuesday.

The programme titled ‘Brand Development and Marketing for SMEs’ was also addressed by Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Muhammad Ijaz and SMEDA, Punjab Chief Raja Hasnain Javed.

Mustafa said that the recently developed customers’ focus on brands and existing competition in the global market had propelled the businessmen to market exclusive brands.

“The businesses, specifically small and medium enterprises, increasingly need to update their knowledge and upgrade their skills to effectively market brands of their products and services,” he added.

Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Muhammad Ijaz praised SMEDA for organising a training programme in collaboration with his chamber.

He said it was need of the hour to prepare for ever increasing competition in the world. “SMEDA has organised the programme at a very right time,” he noted.

He hoped that the businessmen, including small businessmen, managers in brand, sales, marketing, FMCG, retail, distribution, customer services and exports from and around Gujrat would get maximum benefit from the programme.

SMEDA Punjab Chief Raja Hassnien Javed, while speaking at the concluding ceremony, assured the business community that SMEDA would keep on delivering demand based capacity building services to the business community, and programmes of the similar nature would also be conducted in other cities.

It is notable that a full day programme described practical strategies and demonstrated tools and skills for successfully developing and marketing brands to attain higher market share and profitability.

Mustafa explained in detail the benefits of strong brands, role and importance of branding in SMEs, process of introducing successful brands, identifying the right of customers to sell, protecting brand name, producing the right products for customers, selecting a suitable price, persuading and motivating the customers to buy brand, maintaining and increasing the long-term sales of brands.
