LAHORE - The city received scattered showers yesterday, flooding roads with rainwater and causing disruption in normal flow of traffic.

Traffic cops failed to cope with the challenge as major roads were affected by the construction work on Orange Line.

Motorists were seen stuck in traffic jumbles for an hour yesterday evening with bumper to bumper traffic even on the signal-free Jail Road. Other roads including The Mall, Canal Road, Ferozepur Road, Wahdat Road, Multan Road, Bund Road, GT Road Baghbanpura, and Lower Mall also witnessed traffic mess.

The traffic snarl-up also brought problems for the residents in the congested areas of Mozang, Samanabad, Garhi Shahu, Misri Shah, Mughalpura, Nolakha, and Gowalmandi.

The flooded roads multiplied the miseries of the motorists particularly in the evening as a great number of people left their workplaces for homes amid huge rush. Some auto drivers were seen pushing their broken-down vehicles from the rain waters along the service road of the Canal Road in Shadman area.

The wardens switched off the signals on some busy crossings and tried to operate the vehicular traffic manually but they failed to ward off snarl-up.

Posh localities like Gulberg, Johar Town, Model Town, Defense Road, Liberty Market, and cantonment were no exception. The policemen were struggling to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic in many parts of the provincial metropolis till late yesterday night.
